For over a century, Sacred Heart Academy has stood as the greatest institution of magical education ever established. More than a school, it is a symbol of unity, knowledge, and hope — a place where history itself is written.
Founded 137 years ago by the late King Orryx Patterson, known throughout history as The Great Protector, the Academy was born during one of the darkest chapters the world had ever known.
Long before the kingdom of Sunshine Valley existed, its people lived in the ancient homeland of Oblivion, a realm blessed by fertile valleys, crystal rivers, and skies said to be watched over by the Divinities themselves. For centuries, the people believed the heavens were their greatest protectors. Then came the War Above.
The gods, whose names are now spoken only in whispers, descended into a conflict so fierce that the skies themselves became weapons. Lightning burned for weeks without pause. Hurricanes of impossible size swallowed entire cities. Mountains split beneath earthquakes born not of the planet but of divine rage. Oceans rose, forests were erased overnight, and fire and divine blood rained from the heavens. The mortals had committed no crime. They were simply caught beneath a war they could neither understand nor survive. Nearly two-thirds of Oblivion's population perished.
King Orryx Patterson, remembered throughout history as Orryx the Unyielding, refused to let his people vanish alongside their homeland. Gathering every survivor he could find, he united rival nobles, wandering clans, scholars, healers, and soldiers beneath a single banner. Together, they abandoned the only home they had ever known. Their exodus became known as The Great Crossing.
The refugees discovered Igoine, a continent untouched by the devastation of the heavens. There, they founded the Kingdom of Sunshine Valley. Peace returned, but the king never forgot the screams of his dying homeland. He understood a truth that no ruler before him had accepted: walls could stop armies, but they could never stop the fury of gods. Rather than building larger fortresses, King Orryx devoted the kingdom's greatest wealth to something far more enduring: knowledge. He believed that if mortals could master magic to its fullest potential, they might one day stand against disasters that no ordinary soldier could face. Thus, in the kingdom's twelfth year, he founded the Sacred Heart Academy, the first institution dedicated to the complete study of magical arts.
The academy was unlike any school before it. Noble birth held no privilege within its halls. Any child who possessed magical potential, whether born to royalty or to beggars, could earn a place through talent and determination alone. Students were trained not merely to cast spells, but to understand the forces that shaped the world — elemental magic to calm storms, barrier magic to shield entire cities, healing arts to preserve life, celestial magic to interpret omens from the heavens, and combat disciplines to defend the kingdom against threats beyond mortal imagination.
Generations passed. The founders became legends, and the War Above slowly faded into myth. Yet every student who entered Sacred Heart Academy learned the same lesson on their first day: Magic was never created to seek glory. It was born from grief. It was forged by survivors. And it existed so that, should the gods ever wage war again, humanity would not merely endure — they would stand together, defend their home, and prove that the strength of mortals could rival even the heavens themselves.
Over the next century, Sacred Heart Academy became the world's greatest center of magical learning. It produced legendary heroes. It trained queens and kings who reshaped nations. Its professors pioneered hundreds of magical disciplines now practiced across the globe. The Academy's libraries became the largest collection of magical knowledge ever assembled. Its graduates founded hospitals, research institutes, and entire cities. Many of history's greatest discoveries originated within its halls, from intercontinental teleportation circles to restorative healing techniques capable of curing magical curses once thought incurable.
Even today, nations compete fiercely for the honor of sending students to Sacred Heart Academy. Admission is considered one of the highest achievements a young mage can attain. Thousands apply each year. Only a select few are accepted.
The Academy continues to honor King Orryx through traditions observed every year. On Founder's Day, every student carries a lantern through the Grand Courtyard to symbolize the light of knowledge overcoming the darkness of ignorance. First-year students swear the Founder's Oath beneath the Eternal Star, promising to pursue wisdom before power and service before glory.
Though more than a century has passed since its founding, Sacred Heart Academy remains the most prestigious magical institution in existence. Its towers still shine above the clouds. Its halls still echo with the footsteps of future legends. Its classrooms continue to shape the greatest mages of every generation.
